Biographical Data and Artistic Practice

Carlos Ramos (b. Lisbon, 1960) has an extensive body of work in the fields of sculpture, graphic design, ex-libris, and medal-making. He first participated in a sculpture exhibition in 1996 at the Casino Estoril Art Gallery and has since taken part in 68 group exhibitions and 47 solo exhibitions in Portugal, as well as 4 solo and 2 group exhibitions in Spain (Salamanca, Olivenza, Marbella, and Madrid).

Public and Institutional Works

His work is represented in public and private collections in Portugal, England, Brazil, Spain, the Netherlands, Angola, and the United States. Examples include: ANJE, the Municipal Councils of Santarém, Coimbra, and Sacavém, Hotel Myriad, Hotel Epic Sana, Johnson & Johnson, among others.

Notable public works include: the Regicide Plaque (Praça do Comércio, Lisbon), the Memorial to the Victims of Intolerance (Largo de S. Domingos, Lisbon), Time to Dream (Santarém), Earth (Luanda), the Monument to the Overseas Combatants (Sintra), and the sculptural ensemble I Ask for the Floor (Coimbra).

Other Projects and Collaborations

He collaborates with the National Ballet Company on projects involving painted stage curtains, costumes, jewelry, and props for Stravinsky’s ballet The Rite of Spring.

He has created set design and stage machinery for several theatre companies. He was also the subject of the documentary The Artist in His Studio, directed by Álvaro Queiroz for the Portuguese Cinematheque.
